Two mangroves in the lower Florida Keys standing the test of time as they grow around this area made up of fossilized coral. Parts of lower Keys are protected areas. Many people don’t realize the importance mangroves and these ecosystems play in our community. Not only do they serve as protection for smaller animals against predators, but they’re also a line of defense against hurricanes and erosion. Did you know South Beach was once made up of mangroves?
